International Designers Participate in Modest Fashion Day in Kazan

May 23, 2024 — On May 18, Modest Fashion Day was held in Kazan as part of the XV International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum."

The event featured 10 shows by designers from Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, UAE, Russia, Senegal, and France. Representing Russia were brands BURO BANU (Kazan) and Moscow Fashion Week residents Zuhat (Moscow) and ALENA MUSAEVA (Volgograd). International brands Melinda Looi (Malaysia), MONIKA JUFRY (Indonesia), Dalinda Paris (France), Moda Safi and Thoraya Al Awadhi (UAE), Senegal Fashion Show (Senegal), and Nurzat Zheenbek (Kyrgyzstan) also showcased their collections.

Designers from diverse countries drew inspiration from their unique cultures and centuries-old traditions. Elegant details, color schemes, and textures conveyed the values and history of modest fashion from around the world.

Dalinda Paris (France)

The French brand Dalinda Paris combines elegance, luxury, and striking design. For the creative director of Dalinda Fashion House, it was important to highlight the style of the Arab woman, emphasizing her modesty and magnetic beauty. The designer seamlessly blended Eastern motifs with modern European fashion codes. This combination resulted in a memorable and elegant collection featuring fresh shades like grassy green, lime, and scarlet. Many outfits were adorned with embroidery, lace, and large sparkling stones.

Zuhat (Moscow)

Who said dark shades make an outfit boring? The brand Zuhat built its collection entirely on a muted palette, with a focus on total looks. The monochromatic black look was the most dazzling, thanks to the details. The designer adorned part of the outfit with shimmering sequins. Other accent elements drew attention away from the dark palette: textured or shimmering fabrics, contrasting accessories, intertwined belts, long sleeves, draperies, and decorative knots. The brand's signature included not only modern solutions but also the naturalness of materials — linen, silk, cotton, and a small percentage of synthetic fabrics for shape retention.

Melinda Looi (Malaysia)

Melinda Looi, one of Malaysia's most renowned designers, is considered an avant-garde innovator in the country's fashion industry. The collection also featured mermaidcore, naïve style, and renaissancecore: outfits were decorated with large and small sequins, and the skirts with trains resembled either royal attire or mermaid tails. The vibrant patches and prints in this execution took us back to childhood. The collection was bright and striking, showing that experimenting with styling is not only possible but necessary!

Moda Safi (UAE)

The brand Moda Safi actively promotes modesty woven harmoniously into fashion. Flowing and denser materials in calm tones in one look create a stylish contrast, making the collection unique. Details also played a crucial role — key elements included small stones, shimmering patterns, and accent embroidery. The asymmetrical cut also contributed to the collection's uniqueness. These details showed how one can look stylish yet elegant and restrained.

BURO BANU (Kazan)

At Modest Fashion Day, the Kazan brand BURO BANU presented a performance where the RIVAYAT (LEGEND) collection told residents and guests the legend of the creation of the world, and the 2024 collection — MYAGNYA VAKYTY (TIME OF MEANINGS) — alluded to the style images of Tatar women from different eras. The diversity of ornamental patterns characteristic of mid-19th-century embroidery, the use of traditional clothing elements (tubeteika, kazakin) combined with modern cuts and fabrics, created new looks harmoniously integrated into the urban environment.

MONIKA JUFRY (Indonesia)

The creative director of the brand Monika Jufry flew in from sunny Indonesia to share her vision of modest fashion. The designer proved that beauty lies in simplicity, resulting in a light and elegant collection. She harmoniously combined graceful silhouettes with modern design elements — such a fashion alliance has become the hallmark of the MONIKA JUFRY brand. Neat floral prints and textured material, noble muted shades, and flowing fabrics are the brand's main DNA.

Thoraya Al Awadhi (UAE)

The brand from the hot UAE brought a sunny collection. Colorful national outfits, adorned with sequins and floral patterns, transported us to the home of Thoraya Al Awadhi. The designer mixed Arabic motifs with modern tie-dye prints and abstract solutions — an organic blend of past and futurism!

Alena Musaeva (Volgograd)

The concept of the Alena Musaeva brand is built on the cultural values and uniqueness of peoples. Since its founding, the designer has paid homage to her roots, inspired by folklore elements in a modern interpretation. The designer emphasized current fashion trends. For example, she presented combinations of oversized blazers and bomber jackets with flowing skirts and dresses. Another key element was the lace extended peplum worn over the main outfit. Sometimes, airy fabrics were replaced with dense leather. The interplay of textures, muted colors, and materials had a mesmerizing effect.

Nurzat Zheenbek (Kyrgyzstan)

The brand from Kyrgyzstan focused on its uniqueness. Individuality lies in uniqueness — each item in the collection is handmade from natural fibers collected worldwide and crafted using the traditional ala kiiz technique. Nurzat Zheenbek presented a play of forms and textures, as well as bold color solutions that set a vibrant mood for the collection. The outfits and accessories, including statement tights and headwear, were equally bright.

Senegal Fashion Show (Senegal)

Brands from the Senegal Fashion Show focused on colors — vibrant outfits were adorned with equally bright embroidery, and shimmering stones and active prints throughout the garments enhanced this effect. The brands' feature was a mix of various prints in one look
