June 2024 Fashion Digest: Must-Know Fashion News You Might Have Missed
From Paris Fashion Week to Jacquemus' new collection showcased on the sunny island of Capri, Nicola Coughlan in a new Skims campaign, and Lady Gaga wearing a dress by a Ukrainian brand at her jazz show, here's our monthly digest of fashion events.
Fashion Weeks
This month, our attention was captivated by the marathon of Fashion Weeks, starting with men's collections in Milan and Paris. Dries Van Noten presented his final collection as the creative director, marking the end of his 38-year career. His spring-summer 2025 men's show was a reflection on contemporary elegance, showcasing his distinctive style developed over decades.
However, the highlight was undoubtedly Haute Couture Week, with 27 brands unveiling their exquisite collections. Schiaparelli kicked off the event with a focus on rebirth, featuring elegant silhouettes and phoenix wing forms. Chanel embraced a dramatic atmosphere with a show at the Opéra Garnier, presenting its first collection without creative director Virginie Viard. Meanwhile, Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga offered the most extravagant collection, blending oversized everyday wear with high fashion artistry.
We also noted the star-studded guest list, with Kylie Jenner in a semi-transparent corset dress by Schiaparelli, Jennifer Lopez in an asymmetrical brown dress at Dior, and Katy Perry making a bold appearance in a fur coat and ripped tights at Balenciaga.
Jacquemus Show on Capri Island
Simon Porte Jacquemus is known for choosing unique locations for his shows. This time, he selected the sunny, blooming island of Capri, specifically the rooftop of Casa Malaparte villa. The show celebrated the brand's 15th anniversary with elegant silhouettes and vibrant hues, featuring models in draped maxi dresses, A-line skirts, oversized collared coats, and Jacquemus’ signature Bermuda shorts.
Nicola Coughlan in Skims Campaign
Kim Kardashian's brand Skims once again featured notable women in its latest campaign. Nicola Coughlan, star of "Bridgerton" Season 3, posed against a soft pink backdrop in form-fitting maxi dresses of various colors.
ASAP Rocky and Children in Bottega Veneta Campaign
For Father's Day, Bottega Veneta released a touching campaign featuring ASAP Rocky and his two sons. The series of photos, titled "Portraits of Fatherhood," showcased the star enjoying everyday moments with his children, all dressed in Bottega Veneta's new line. The boys wore white bodysuits with "Best Dad" written on them.
Jonathan Anderson's Meme-Inspired Bag
A user on social media reposted an image of an unusually shaped tomato, captioning it: "This tomato looks so Loewe I can’t explain it." Creative director Jonathan Anderson loved the comparison and shared the screenshot on Instagram. A few days later, he unveiled a new tomato-shaped bag, proving his knack for turning memes into reality.
Leadership Changes in Fashion Brands
This month brought significant changes in fashion brand leadership. Virginie Viard stepped down as Chanel's creative director, a position she held since 2019 after Karl Lagerfeld's passing. While Chanel has not announced her successor, rumors suggest Pierpaolo Piccioli, who recently left Valentino, might take the helm.
Meanwhile, Lanvin appointed Peter Copping as its new creative director, bringing his experience from Nina Ricci, Oscar de la Renta, and Balenciaga.
