Never Apply Blush This Way — It Will Age You and Highlight Wrinkles

Here are the essential blush application tips to save your makeup look.

Makeup is designed to conceal imperfections and highlight our best features. Yet, many of us still apply blush the old-fashioned way, which can unfortunately add years to our appearance. So, how should you apply blush to make you look younger and even out your skin tone?

Proper Blush Application: Techniques and Description
Forget About the Apples

It used to be common to smile while applying blush and spread the color on the prominent, rounded parts of the face. However, this method can make women look like wax dolls and add years to their age. Instead, makeup artists recommend applying the product slightly above the cheekbones, from the temples towards the wings of the nose. This technique makes the face appear slimmer and accentuates the cheekbones.

For convenience, use the "two-finger technique." Straighten your index finger and raise your thumb. Place the index finger at the wing of your nose and apply the blush along the resulting line.

Distribute Color Unevenly

To avoid a single streak of pink or peach, the application should be gradient. More pigment should be at the temples, becoming lighter towards the nose. To achieve this, load the brush with product and use a tapping motion to cover the start of the blush line. Towards the end of the line, use the remaining product without reloading the brush.

Cream Textures Over Powders

Products with a moist texture give the skin a more radiant and youthful appearance, while dry ones emphasize wrinkles and make the face look dull. Therefore, opt for creamy blushes and don't shy away from bright shades, as they also help in creating a youthful look.

Finish with Highlighter

To add more inner glow to the skin, it's crucial to apply a highlighter on the protruding parts of the face. This includes the forehead, nose, area above the upper lip, and cheekbones. Apply the highlighter on the blush and slightly above it to achieve a rejuvenating effect. When choosing a highlighter, prefer creamy options.
