The Wheel of Balance is a coaching tool with a 50-year history that allows for a quick assessment of life satisfaction and balance. Developed by American coach Paul Meyer, who came from a poor immigrant family and became a millionaire by 27, this tool has helped many understand their potential.

In 1966, Meyer founded the Success Motivation Institute, which focuses on personal development and helping people achieve their potential. Over 50 years, it has grown into an international group with training and books in over 20 languages. Meyer became a leading authority in goal-setting, time management, and personal development.

During coaching sessions, Meyer used his Wheel of Balance technique to:

Applying the Wheel of Balance

Types of Wheels:

Pie/Pizza Wheel: Lines are drawn through the segments, and the relevant parts are shaded.
Spider Web: Points are marked and connected instead of shading, commonly used in online versions.
Other versions like "Sun," "Cake," and "Target" exist but are best used with a psychologist or coach due to the self-analysis techniques involved.

Originally, Meyer’s wheel had six areas, but today it can include up to 12:

Environment: Are you happy with your surroundings?
Family and Friends: Does your interaction fulfill or drain you?
Love: Do personal relationships support and inspire you?
Children: Are your relationships with your children strong?
Health: Are your body and mind well cared for?
Appearance: Do you like what you see in the mirror?

Using the Wheel:

Choose areas to assess.
Rate satisfaction in each on a 10-point scale.
Consider what a perfect 10 would look like for each area.
Draw your wheel, marking satisfaction levels.
Analyze which areas are lacking and which excel.
Plan steps to improve the lower-rated areas.
Adjust your plan as needed, keeping in mind how interconnected the areas are.
For instance, if health is lacking, a plan might include:

Exercising twice a week.
Maintaining hydration.
Avoiding fast food.
Visiting the dentist.
Active steps towards balance will bring satisfaction and the energy to handle life’s challenges. Recognizing the interconnections, like how insufficient rest affects health and appearance, is crucial.
